Coursework (“the app”) is a third-party client for the Canvas Learning Management System. This policy explains what data the app handles and how. The app is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Instructure, Inc. or Canvas.
Coursework does not collect, sell, or share your personal data with the developer or any third party. The app talks only to the Canvas server you sign in to (your school’s server). It contains no analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
All of the following is stored only on your device:
None of this data is transmitted to the developer. The developer operates no servers and has no access to your information.
The app communicates only with the Canvas server you specify when signing in, over an encrypted HTTPS connection. This includes reading your courses, assignments, grades, announcements, and calendar, and — at your direction — marking assignments complete and uploading files you choose to submit. File uploads may be routed to the file-storage host your Canvas server designates.
The app requests camera access only when you choose to take a photo to attach to an assignment submission. Photos you pick from your library are accessed through the system photo picker. Any media you select is uploaded only to your Canvas server as part of a submission you initiate. The app does not access your camera or photo library for any other purpose.
The app schedules local notifications on your device (assignment reminders and optional daily digests). No push notifications are sent from any remote server, and no data leaves your device for this feature.
Signing out of the app deletes the stored access token and clears all cached data from your device. Deleting the app removes all locally stored data. To revoke the app’s access on the server side, delete the access token from your Canvas account settings (Account → Settings → Approved Integrations / Access Tokens).
The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children and contains no behavioral tracking. Any educational data shown comes from the Canvas account you sign in to and is governed by your institution’s policies.
The access token you enter is one you generate yourself in your own Canvas account. Coursework stores it only on your device (in the iOS Keychain) and uses it solely to load your own account's data; you can revoke it at any time from your Canvas settings. Coursework never sees, receives, or stores your token or your data on any server operated by the developer — there are no developer servers. Your use of Coursework with your Canvas account is subject to your institution's and Instructure, Inc.'s applicable terms of use, and you are responsible for your own credentials.
